Life After School – Careers Information, Education and Guidance

At The Romsey School we work with all our pupils to prepare them for life beyond Year 11, whether that is likely to be in Further Education, Vocational Training or in Employment with Training. Throughout their time in school pupils experience a range of activities which are designed to introduce them to the world of work and help them understand their future options.

Activities take place with each year group chosen to reflect the stage they are at in considering their future plans. Additional information relating to careers and working life is also covered as part of the curriculum in many subject areas.

The Romsey School has a fully qualified and experienced Careers Adviser/Careers Leader - - Miss Jane Phillipps - on site (Monday-Thursday). She is able to offers pupils 1:1 guidance and to meet both pupils and parents for appointments outside normal school hours if this is more convenient. Miss Phillipps can be contacted on (01794) 527049 or jphillipps@theromseyschool.org

The following pages are designed to give you an understanding of how we manage CIEAG at The Romsey School with key information for each year group.

Meet the Team.......

MISS J PHILLIPPS

Careers Leader, The Romsey School

I have worked in Romsey School since 1998, and as my role with the Careers Service began to concentrate geographically in this area I was asked by the school to work for them exclusively.

It is unusual for a school to have their own Careers Adviser but for me the benefits are numerous.

I understand how the school works, most pupils know who I am and where to find me and I have been able to build close professional relationships with colleagues over the years which helps us all to support and guide our students.

I spend each day on Zoom and Teams providing virtual advice to clients and colleagues across the world in different time zones from Hong Kong to Beijing, Singapore to Washington DC and San Francisco, but my favorite part is when I get to attend meetings and conferences in person to represent my companies and build new strategic relationships.

Experience:

RazorSecure Ltd: Non-Executive Director/ Chairperson: Cyber security
JuMelia Ltd: Owner/ Founder: Consultancy established in 2014 with consultancy clients in the Defence, Security, Space and Datacentre sectors with clients such including Airbus Defence & Space, Catapult, NATS, Sodexo, CH2M Hill and Babcock.
Serco: Business Development Director of Serco Defence, Space & National Security, with £172m contracts across the UK, US, Middle East and APAC
Clutch Space Systems Ltd: Non-Executive Director/ Chairperson: Space sector

How did I get into this?

In my early career I held several full-time positions as a Sales Director, managing teams and client relationships for major outsourcing organisations in multiple sectors.

After completing a foreign languages degree in French and Italian I joined an international computing company (Fujitsu) and found that my love of languages and my love of computers could take me in many directions! I’m still learning and my regular trips to China have enabled me to make new friends across the world.

What is the EA role?

It’s a completely voluntary role and an initiative from government to link people working in different industries to schools so that pupils can have access to real-world experience and contacts. I have 2 daughters and 3 stepsons who are at different stages: some have left higher education or are at college and others are still at secondary school – so I have lots of experience as a working parent as well!

How can I help you?
