Events and Activities

There are various events run by the Library throughout the year. We hope that these events will enthuse pupils about reading!

Children studying in the library

Readers Club: A pupil reading club takes place every Wednesday lunchtime in the Library. This is open to all pupils. Readers Club members participate in a variety of activities including book discussions, shadowing book awards, evaluating genres, comparing the film to the book and reviewing books.

The Hampshire Book Award: this annual award is judged by Year 8 pupils in Hampshire schools and we always participate. A team of 12 judges from Year 8 read, discuss and evaluate the shortlisted books and are the people who have the final choice of winner as they each vote for their favourite.

Author Visits: we are always keen to give pupils the opportunity to work with an author and we have been fortunate to have welcomed various authors into school, such as Dan Freedman, Ali Sparkes, Karl Nova, Andy Briggs and Sarah Singleton. We also sometimes attend author visits being held locally.

Children celebrating at a festival

Wessex Schools Literary Festival: the biggest event of the year in the School Library is our Literary Festival. The festival is a collaboration between several local secondary schools and takes place towards the end of the summer term. It lasts for two weeks and we have had some exciting activities in previous years, including visits from authors, poets, illustrators, a storyteller and a journalist. We also have an annual inter-schools quiz (Romsey have won it twice), a Film Night and various other activities for our pupils and some of our local feeder schools too.
