School Life & Uniform

Please note that from September 2024, Year 7 students will need a blazer with the new school logo on as shown below.

Transport Enquiries & Travelling to School

As a school we strongly encourage staff and students to walk or cycle to school if at all possible (see maps/information below). This will help to reduce the school's environmental impact and is also a great idea for wellbeing. Alternatively using public transport or school buses is a good option. If you wish to enquire about the subsidised buses from Southampton, Totton and the Landford area, please contact the Finance Office via email on transport@romsey.hants.sch.uk. If you have any other enquiries regarding school transport please contact Hampshire Passenger Transport Services.

Walking to School

Hampshire County Council have produced these resources to help you plan your child's journey to school with them. These maps have also been posted on their My Journey Website where you will find lots of other useful information.

Cycling to School

Bike racks are located behind East Block. All students must wear helmets to ride to and from school as well as wearing high vis clothing and/or lights in the winter. The bike racks are covered by CCTV cameras but nevertheless a bike lock is reccomended for all users.

Travel by Train

Romsey Station is a 7 minute walk from the school and there are regular services from Southampton, Salisbury & The Test Valley.

Travel by Car

If there is no choice but for students to travel by car then parents are encouraged to drop off them off in central Romsey or the Waitrose car park in order to avoid congestion in the residential areas around the school. This will then give students a 10 minute walk into school - use the walking maps above to help plan this. Parents should never drop off or collect students directly from the school site other than after an afterschool activity.

General School Uniform

PE Kit

During winter months, for outdoor sports, pupils may wear Romsey School black sports  jumpers and black jogging bottoms over the top of their PE kit to keep warm.

  • Gymnastics is done in bare feet whilst all other activities require suitable sport trainers.
  • All pupils are encouraged to bring a towel, this is particularly important for winter games.
  • All kit must be properly named and labelled so that we may return misplaced items of clothing.
  • Year 9 Dance - Pupils are expected to wear either: plain black leggings, black Romsey School leggings, black tracksuit bottoms or PE shorts. They may wear plain black or white T'shirts or vests or the Romsey School white polo shirt.  Crop tops or cropped t shirts are not permitted.
  • Year 10 GCSE Dance - Within GCSE Dance it is important to be able to see the posture and body alignment. Therefore pupils studying Dance GCSE should wear leotards (or a plain white or black vest) and leggings. Crop tops or cropped t shirts are not permitted. Supportive sports tops/bras as undergarments are encouraged for the girls.

Pupils who have attended PE lessons during the school day should change back into their normal uniform before travelling home.
